Tygart Lake State Park Reviews

It's a beautiful woodland experience. The low review is due to the strange behavior of one park attendant. He lurked around our cabin at odd hours seemingly to bring firewood or empty garbage. Every night 11 pm, 2 am, 3:30 am, very disturbing. He peered into our windows and hung around much longer than necessary. He pulled into our driveway space and sat in his truck. Meanwhile, all this during a season when hardly a cabin was rented making it very obvious that he was a creeper. We are three females! You decide.

Couldn't say enough great things about this State Park in West Virginia ❤️. Campground. Site 6. Level with power and water. Mike was most helpful. (Campground store). Lots of firewood. Sites were a little close. But we had great neighbors! Lunch and breakfast at the lodge. Yummy 😋. Good hiking. Quiet Quiet Quiet. Great spot for tents and no power hookups. Cabins looked nice. Highly recommend!!

The cabins were very nice and well appointed. The scenery was amazing. The restaurant was very nice with great food and service. The inflatable water park was a lot of fun for adults and kids. That being said, you better bring your upper body strength to get on that floating cube thing.nnThe cabins are the way to go. Park nearby for the kids. Trails, bicycling, fire pits, grill, deck, and most importantly... Air conditioning. It's a great place to create some fond memories.

My wife and I stayed in one of the cabins 2 nights then the lodge 4 nights. I prefer the cabin over the lodge. Cabins have a full kitchen and provide quiet and privacy. Both lodge rooms and cabin were clean and well kept. The lake is beautiful and almost no boat or jet ski traffic. Was disappointed that multi-day boat rentals had to be returned by 6pm each night then could pick up again the next morning. Fishing from shore was not an option- very few places to fish from shore and very hard to get to without bushwhacking. If you have kids they will love the water park(costs $19 per person per day, except $10 on Tuesday’s). Not much to do in Grafton but did see a public swimming pool barely in use. Overall, a very nice park.

Sites were not as advertised. Way too close together and on hills, though the hills were not their fault. They are unavoidable. They also say you can have 2 cars per site, but then they asked us to move one. The rangers were very nice and helpful. The bathroom was fine and they cleaned it often. We were extremely disappointed that you can't swim anywhere on the whole huge lake, except for the water park area, where you have to pay. The lake is gorgeous, but in the summer you barely get to see it from the campground or the road.
