SureStay Plus By Best Western Highland Poughkeepsie

Our experience during a one-night stay was great. We will return to this hotel. On arrival, the woman at the front desk gave exemplary service. She was friendly, genuine, helpful, and recognized our Best Western membership with an unexpected room upgrade. She honored the special requests we made when we reserved online. The hotel was in a quiet location with large beautiful trees in the back. Our room was large and very clean. No carpet on floor (bring slippers). The bathroom was large, with a full size counter/vanity, a backlit mirror, plenty of hooks and a nice shower. The bed and pillows were much more comfortable than the average motel. Almost everything was in great shape. there were plenty of well-located electrical and USB outlets for charging devices. It was easy to connect to, and stay connected to, the WIFI. Internet speed was excellent. Desk chair was very comfortable. The air conditioner was quiet and maintained a constant, comfy temp. We got a great night's sleep.nThe parking lot was large, with generous parking spaces. We skipped the breakfast, because we prefer healthier options. They offer microwaveable egg sandwiches, which is a hearty option. In-room coffee was Green Mountain (4 K-cups) -really enjoyed it! The parking lot exits onto one side of a divided highway, so one must head 2 minutes to the first light to make a U-turn for travel in the other direction. There a picnic tables in the back, in a quiet location near the woods. The room phone had a dial tone, but was not working properly. The toilet moved a bit--we think it needs to be tightened. Those were minor issues that would not stop us from recommending this property for travelers seeking a clean, quiet, pleasant hotel at a better price than comparable hotels in this area.

I'd like to start off this review with a personal request for those who stay at any hotel who are part of a large wedding/bridal/bachelor party and I hope you'll respect the request from the perspective that it comes from...nnWhen your large party comes back to the hotel after an event, late at night, the halls of that hotel are not there for you to congregate and have loud conversations while other guests are sleeping.nnFor some reason, it seems common that those in a large party group return to a hotel and just completely seem to forget that it's a place where people are trying to get a good night's rest.nnSo, my girlfriend and I were in the area for the annual Headless Horseman event up the road. We chose this particular hotel six months in advance (as hotels around this area sell out quickly for October) as it was not only close to the event but also remarkably inexpensive.nnI am a Hampton Inn kind of guy. I am used to their level of offerings, particularly their breakfast. Best Western Plus is usually my second choice which can be fairly close in providing the same level of value and breakfast. To date, I have never stayed at a Surestay, which while part of the Best Western family, seems to fall in the lower spectrum of their brand.nnThe front desk personnel were exceptional. Check-in was very easy. We were given a room at the very end of the first floor. As we took the long walk down the hall, we noticed white ribbons on many of the doors. My girlfriend and I sighed as we immediately knew that there was a wedding party staying there. And true to expectations, the party arrived back around 9 p.m. and was quite audible in the hallways. I was awoken at 1:30 a.m. by loud hallway conversations right outside my door. It was just remarkable that these individuals thought they could carry on this way, in the hall, and not bother anyone who was sleeping. And of course, the hotel personnel did nothing about it as I am certain they must have heard the ruckus at the nearby front desk.nnThe rooms are average. They are very clean and the beds are very comfortable. However, there is no closet space to be had anywhere which we found to be quite odd.nnThe continental breakfast is a complete joke compared to what you get at Hampton Inn or Best Western Plus. There is no hot food, though you can request frozen biscuits from the front desk to throw into the microwave. They were not very good at all. The wrapped pastries were really bad. Perhaps the best items offered were yogurt and cereal. The coffee was not very tasty. Since we are staying two days here (we are still at the hotel), we have already decided to skip the free breakfast tomorrow morning and go to a nearby diner instead. Sorry, but the continental breakfast is just completely lackluster.nnAnd here's one more issue that I would not have known about if I didn't catch it mentioned in another review....if you stay more than one night your room will not be cleaned/towels replaced unless you specifically hang a door plaquard requesting it. Nobody at the front desk bothers to tell you that.nnIn all, it's not a bad place to stay if you can get a room for under $130 a night. It's clean and comfortable which are two of the most important things you want to look for in an overnight stay.

This was such an enjoyable stay - no problems - everything worked and everything I needed was there. Nice clean, large, modern rooms. Comfortable beds. The facility is well-maintained and the property well-lit. This is not a high-end hotel that treats you like royalty. It is a basic hotel that treats you like family. Staff was courteous, professional and welcoming. Although breakfast was only a continental breakfast, microwavable breakfast sandwiches were available. Overall, well-run operation.

The staff here is, by far, the best I have come across. Ashley at the front desk went above and beyond for us. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and the rooms spacious. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it.

Clean, comfortably rooms with friendly staff. We booked it last minute for a place to get some rest in between travel. This was a much nicer area than directly in Poughkeepsie.
