James J. Braddock Park Reviews
Lovely park; free, adequate parking, clean, well-maintained, walkable, and safe.nnThere are some shops and food options along Bergenline Avenue. There was also a mini flea market along that street during the Saturday afternoon I visited.nnThe large pond in the middle of the park offers some nice views. The path around the pond is excellent for walking/jogging.nnIt was safe during my daytime visit and I did notice some police presence there, which is reassuring.
I love this park. A lot! I have known about this park since I was a pre-teen. Today, Sunday, July 31, 2022, was the first time in more than two years since I had visited. I love the abundance of benches, the variety of trees, the walking trails, the Nature's Park Cafe, and, of course, the lake. When I visited earlier today, I saw a beautiful variety of people--white, Black, Hispanic and Asian--doing everything from walking, jogging, sitting on benches, kayaking, having picnics, riding bicycles and more. According to Google Maps, this park is open 24 hours, which surprises me, as most parks are open from dawn to dusk. I look forward to returning, as soon as I possibly can.
This park had gone through some wonderful changes. It is beautiful and is ideal for picnics, gatherings, handball, racquetball and tennis.nnThe corn tuck serves up delicious roasted corn and is consistently busy. The Nature's Park Cafe is quite busy at times. I did try the lentil soup there and for a park cafe, it was actually quite tasty!nnThe downside here is does not matter that there are signs asking people not to feed the wildlife, yet people do. This has created a horrible situation with the squirrels who will walk right up to you in the park and sit upright and beg for food.nnUnfortunately, there is no one to properly govern the park, so I was constantly shooing the squirrels away.
Beautiful park, parking gets packed quickly so make sure to arrive early!
This place goes by so many names: Braddock Park, 80th Street Park, Hudson County Park, el Parque de la Ochenta. Whatever we decide to call it, it’s a blessing to have this green space here at the northern tip of Hudson County.nnThere’s tennis courts, fishing, kayaking, a track, a pond, nature trails, poke gyms, a cafe with coffee an empanadas, a James Braddock statue, a tree museum, a community compost and garden, and a picnic area—most urban spaces don’t have anything like this. My favorite things to do here are play frisbee, take a stroll around the pond, run around the outside perimeter (2.1 miles), eat corn from the corn guys, and ride my bike around. There’s also a covid testing site stationed in the parking lot and a seasonal farmer’s market.
